Purchasing restaurant POS systems is a serious matter as the system is a long term investment for your business. The decisions you make with regards to the best POS hardware and software for your restaurant determine how effective the system will be in increasing your profits and making your operations more efficient.

The following are some of the things you should consider in selecting the right restaurant point of sale system:

Cost of the restaurant POS system

The cost of the point of sale system is an important factor but it should not be the only factor in making your decisions. Buying free or cheap POS software systems for a restaurant may not be a good decision. There are POS suppliers that offer the best package and value for your money.

Choose a POS system based on the return on investment and its long-term benefits. Spend wisely on a restaurant POS. Do not go over budget as this might lead to additional financial worries instead of increased savings. Opt for a basic package that is within the budget then upgrade it as the restaurant expands.

Require a WIFI system?

Consider installing a WIFI POS system in the restaurant for added flexibility in the service operations. Using a wireless connection system allows the movement of cash registers within the restaurant without having to unplug any system. This is very useful during special functions, promos, or events when there is a need to arrange or set up a POS system outside the area for a few hours. Having a wireless restaurant POS offers business owners flexibility and added efficiency in banquet operations.

Ease of Use

A good restaurant POS system must be easy to install, learn, and use. When the POS software system has been installed, the POS supplier should also offer sufficient product training and provide technical support and customer care service for all the possible questions that might arise after the training and during the actual use of the system. Complete installation and user guides can be helpful but if a customer representative from the POS company can visit the restaurant to provide a refresher training then that would be ideal.

Available Technical Support

Determine if the POS system package includes reliable technical support for its software and hardware systems. This is a very crucial factor since any unresolved bug, technical problem, or downtime can immediately have negative effects on the restaurant’s operations. These can decrease the overall customer satisfaction. A restaurant with no cash register system on a weekend can be disastrous to the business.

To avoid this scenario, ensure that the support level agreement (SLA) between the POS supplier and the buyer is properly available in writing. To ensure that both sides are protected, the POS supplier and the restaurant owner should have a copy of the SLA agreement.

Use of CCTV

Use supplementary tools and devices like security cameras or CCTVs for additional safety measures and increased management control over the restaurant. The use of CCTVs helps in monitoring the transactions that are made by the staff. These also enable the manager or the owner to see the actions of the people inside the restaurant. This can prevent untoward incidents such as theft, customers pretending to already have paid the bill, and cashiers over changing the customers. CCTV is used effectively with the POS system and cash register.

These guidelines will help business decision makers to focus only on the essential considerations in buying a restaurant POS system.
